Toyota Motor to Rename PEVE as Toyota Battery Company After Full Acquisition

Toyota Motor Corporation announced plans to rename its electric vehicle (EV) battery subsidiary, Primearth EV Energy (PEVE), to Toyota Battery Company Ltd. after acquiring all outstanding shares from joint venture partner Panasonic Holdings. Toyota is set to purchase Panasonic's 19.5% stake in PEVE by the end of the month, making the battery manufacturer a wholly-owned subsidiary. PEVE will continue to be headquartered in Kosai City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and primarily supply batteries to the Toyota Group. The name change will take effect from October 1, 2024, reflecting PEVE's growing role within the group. In addition to batteries for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), the company will also produce batteries for future full electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), aligning with Toyota's shift towards low and zero-emission vehicles.

BYD SHARK Pickup Arrives in Chile with DMO Technology to Redefine Pickup Standards
BYD has officially launched the SHARK pickup in the Chilean market. The SHARK is the first pickup to feature DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) technology, combining the performance and efficiency of traditional combustion vehicles with electric vehicles. Equipped with a 1.5T turbocharged engine and dual electric motors, the SHARK offers over 430 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 5.7 seconds. It features BYD's Blade Battery integrated via CTC (Cell-to-Chassis) technology, capable of charging from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes. The vehicle includes a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen, a 10.8-inch dashboard, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and is available in black, blue, and white. The SHARK also boasts a payload capacity of 850 kg and a towing capacity of 2,500 kg, along with six airbags and the DiPilot driving assistance system.

Nissan Formula E Returns to Mexico City E-Prix, Extends Coral Partnership for Carbon Reduction
Nissan confirmed its Formula E squad will race in the Mexico City E-Prix, Round 2 of the 2025/26 season. Jaecoo J5 Teaser Campaign Begins in Malaysia, B-Segment SUV Targeted Around RM120k
Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has kicked off the teaser campaign for the incoming B-segment SUV Jaecoo J5, now open for registration. Measuring 4,380×1,860×1,650mm and riding on a 2,620mm wheelbase, the J5 targets the Honda HR-V set. A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit delivers 147PS/210Nm to the front wheels via CVT, claiming 7.5L/100km. Kit includes LED lighting, panoramic roof, 13.2-inch 2K portrait screen, 8-inch digital cluster and L2 ADAS; indicative price is circa RM120k, with final specs to be confirmed.
