China's mandatory national standard for autonomous driving safety requirements (GB 44721—2026) has been approved and will take effect on July 1, 2027. The standard applies to vehicles with L3 and L4 highly automated driving systems (Class M and N), excluding automatic parking systems. It requires automakers to establish lifecycle safety guarantees covering product design, manufacturing and post-deployment, ensuring the autonomous system achieves safety levels at least equivalent to a competent driver without posing unreasonable risks. The standard specifies dynamic driving task requirements across scenarios and minimum risk strategy triggers. Human-machine interaction must include clear activation/deactivation prompts, and L3 systems require driver takeover monitoring. Compared to the UN ADS GTR, China's standard provides more detailed technical requirements tailored to its road traffic environment.

Li Auto has unveiled the official interior images of the new MEGA Home variant, scheduled to launch on September 2. The cabin features a dual-vertical sunroof design with upgraded lighting, diamond-quilted seats and an expanded folding table. The second-row seats can recline to face the third row, creating a living-room mode, while the third row gains ventilation. Suzuki has unveiled the eSky, its first electric kei car, targeting both domestic Japan and export markets. Built on the same Heartect-e platform as the eVitara, it packs a 26kWh battery delivering 310km of range under the JC08 cycle—outperforming most segment rivals despite its modest 64PS/133Nm output. Its curb weight of just 1,030kg (200kg lighter than the BYD Racco) contributes to superior efficiency. The production model retains the concept's upright body, C-clamp lighting signatures, and contrasting roof, while the interior introduces a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and 7-segment LCD instrument cluster as firsts for Suzuki kei cars. A 100V/1.5kW power outlet is also fitted. The eSky launches in Japan in Q4, with Europe and UK exports following in 2027. At the Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2026, Proton unveiled its next-generation HEV hybrid system, abandoning the previous "FutureMotion" branding. Based on Geely's i-HEV platform, the system mirrors the eMas 7 PHEV's architecture but dispenses with the large battery pack, pairing a 1.5L naturally-aspirated BHE15 four-cylinder engine (operating on full-time Atkinson cycle) with a single-speed 11-in-1 dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) housing P1 and P3 motors. The series-parallel setup offers four modes: pure EV, range-extender, engine-direct drive, and hybrid. The engine delivers 111 PS and 136 Nm with 46.5% thermal efficiency, while the transmission achieves 97.5% efficiency. Proton will market it as "DHT120" (120kW motor output ≈ 163 PS), with assembly in Tanjung Malim. The first application will be the AMA02, a Saga-based A-segment SUV. By deploying modular hybrid technology into the mass-market segment, Proton aims to carve out a differentiated position in the ASEAN automotive landscape.

SAIC-GM Cadillac has announced that the XT5 PHEV will officially launch on September 7. The model features a 1.5L turbocharged engine paired with a dual-motor plug-in hybrid system, delivering 215km of pure electric range and 1,360km of combined range under CLTC testing. The exterior retains the signature shield-shaped grille and split headlights, with a lidar sensor mounted on the roof.
